Young Offenders have ‘Hope for the World’

Reflex deliver Urban Skillz music programmes and Outreach projects inside HMPYOI Brinsford, working with young people who have struggled to engage with other forms of education. We are pleased to re-engage these young people with learning, to build their confidence and help them achieve an ASDAN accredited award.

Last summer we were also delighted to partner with Arts Council West Midlands in HMP-YOI Brinsford on a music video project and a charity single.

Anyone who has spent time talking to young adults will know that this generation want to make a difference. However, it may be a surprise to hear that this is equally true of young adults in prison. Reflex found that the disasters in Haiti and Pakistan provoked a remarkable response from young offenders at HMP-YOI Brinsford.

The young adult participants composed and recorded two tracks to raise money for the victims of the Haiti and Pakistan disasters called, ‘Hope for the World’.

Geoff Baxter, Reflex Director says:

“I am delighted that Reflex have been able to work with such a passionate group of young adults on the ‘Hope for the World’ project. It has been a real inspiration to see them wanting to make a difference in the lives of others.”

Stephanie Roberts-Bibby, Governor at HMP-YOI Brinsford, said:

“I am really proud of the young adults who have been involved with this project.  Not only have they acquired accreditations which will contribute to helping them gain training and employment on release, a key factor in reducing re-offending, but they have acknowledged the devastation caused by these two disasters and have decided to do all they can to help those who have been affected.”
